Whale Path, the on-demand business research platform led by co-founders Artem Gassan and Colin Gu, have raised $1.1 million in seed funding and adopted a new business model for their custom business research startup.
Whale Path has developed an on-demand research platform that offers business research such as market intelligence and competitive analysis, done by postgraduate students it vets. It says it can deliver customized reports three times faster and at half the price of traditional research vendors.
Whale Path received an award for Best in Western U.S. company of the year from Founder Institute
Prior to Whale Path, Artem has founded two companies: Viestly and World Market Media, and previously served as interim COO of iBuildApp. Attended Oxford University. Mentor at Happy Farm Accelerator and Skolkovo IT Cluster. Alumni of 500 Startups, Plug and Play Startup Camp and Founder Institute Accelerators.
Prior to Whale Path, Colin was an engineer at VMWare. He holds a Masters in Computer Science from USC and a B.E. in Computer Science from Huazhong University. While in school, Colin founded the Tencent Innovation Club and grew it to an over 250 member community in 2 years. Went through 500 Startups and Plug and Play Startup Camp. Graduated “top of the class” at Founder Institute. Experience in engineering and design.
Prior to Whale Path, Stephen served as CEO Asia Pacific for Bass PLC/Brewers Ltd. where he led turnaround that increased annual revenue 50% to $300 million, doubling cash flow and profit. Hey was senior VP and MD of China for Bausch & Lomb (Fortune 1000 company) where he drove revenue from $160 million to $300 million. Stephen is also current CEO and founder of UTC Links, a boutique investment firm.
Prior to Whale Path, Patrick founded a company called FarReaches, focusing on leveraging WordPress for businesses. Previously served as a Senior Software Architect at LinkedIn. He holds a B.Sc. in Computer Science from Michigan Technological University.
Prior to Whale Path, Maria Paula spent ~8 years at Experian (EXPN.L) as a senior business development professional across competitive intelligence and corporate innovation. Drove Experian Latin America from 72nd to 2nd as most innovative company in Brazil.
Prior to Whale Path, Michael founded two companies: QikCut and YourStoryBox (backed by Startup Chile). Previously served as a VP of Business Development and Acquisitions for Solid Entertainment.
